Summoning and Dispelling Creatures

You can summon a single creature to aid you. Summoning a creature uses an action, and your summoned creature cannot act until your next turn. The summoned creature appears in an empty space within 15 feet of you. If there is not an empty space large enough to contain your summoned creature within 15 feet of you, then the summon fails.

When you summon a creature, you lose Grit equal to the creature's HD. If you do not have Grit equal to a creature's HD, you cannot summon it. Summoned creatures do not have any Grit points, and have extra Flesh equal to your Flesh Bonus (FB), but are otherwise identical to the creature they are based on.

Creatures with 1 HD can be summoned without spending any Grit, but choosing not to spend Grit prevents them from benefitting from your Flesh Bonus.

You can dispel a summoned creature with an action. You recover half the creature's HD rounded down in Grit when you dispel a summoned creature. If a summoned creature dies, it is automatically dispelled, but you do not recover any Grit.

You can only have one summoned creature in existence at the same time.

Using Summoned Creatures

Summoned creatures act on your turn. A summoned creature can move or act, but cannot do both. However, you can spend your action to allow your summoned creature to do both.

You can direct your summoned creature's actions without speaking, and it will carry out your wishes to the best of its ability.

What Creatures Can I Summon?

Summoners can summon an ethereal version of any animal. Other creatures can be summoned, but in order to summon them you must first make a pact with the creature, or a spirit that represents the creature if the creature in question is incapable of making pacts itself. The requirements of each pact will differ by creature, and some creatures may refuse to make pacts altogether.

About Summoned Creatures

Summoned creatures are ethereal and fleeting. A summoned creature does not have the memories of the creature it is based on, but it retains instincts and training. Summoned creatures do not retain memories between summonings, so it is unclear whether summoning the same creature twice summons two different versions of the same creature or if the summoned creature loses its memory when dispelled. Most summoners try not to think about it too much.
